In a home game against Cap 8 foe Enloe on Friday 4/11/14, the Caps’ varsity relied on solid pitching and defense to take a 3 – 1 victory.  “We got an outstanding performance on the mound from Thomas Walden and we backed him with solid defense,” remarked head coach Harry Jones.  “We scraped together just enough offense to get a good win.”

So. Walden pitched a complete game, scattering just 4 hits and surrendering a lone run to the Eagles.  Walden did not walk any Eagles and the defense committed just one error.  The defense turned a nice 5-4-3 double play (Sr. Ben Eller to Sr. Ben Sawyer to Sr. Eric Collins) in the top of the 7th inning to stop any chance of an Eagles rally and end the game.

Offensively, the Caps were also limited to just 4 hits but they added 3 walks and the Eagles committed 3 errors.  After falling behind early the Caps would score 1 run each in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings.  In the 4th, Sr. Rob Case would reach on an error and later score on a wild pitch.  In the 5th, Jr. Dom Ford would reach on a walk and later score on a wild pitch.  In the 6th, So. Will Baldwin reached on a single and would eventually score on an RBI single by Sr. Ben Eller.

Offensive leaders for the game: Dom
Ford (1 – 2, BB, run), So. Jake Baize (1 – 3), Will Baldwin (1 – 3, run) and Ben Eller (1 – 3, RBI).

The Caps varsity will travel to Heritage on Tuesday 4/15/14 for a 7:00 p.m. game.  They will travel to Wake Forest on Thursday 4/17/14 for a 4:30 p.m. game.
