Big Win over Wake Forest Rolesville puts Broughton back in the Drivers seat for a Playoff Spot.

Broughton won 3-2 behind a complete game from Cameron Gombatz who struck out six.

The offensive attack was led by Zach Pearce who with two out in the 2nd connected on his first career home run to left field.  In the fourth Will Cooper led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Zach Pearce Sac Fly.  Broughton closed out the scoring in the 5th when Thomas Butler hit a no doubt solo home run.

Broughton lost a tough one last night.  Millbrook scores 2 in the 7th to win 4-3.

Cameron Gombatz pitched 6 great innings last night but ran out of go go juice in the 7th.  Millbrook forced 2 intentional walks and then converted with timely hitting.

Both teams played well defensively despite each making an error that cost them a run.  There were several nice plays with Kevin Partin, Cameron Gombatz and Joe Bialkowski standing out defensively.

The Caps scored in the 2nd when Thomas Butler led off with a single, stole 2nd was bunted to 3rd and scored on a Joe Bialkowski single. Broughton struck again in 4th when Zach Pearce led off with a single then courtesy runner Evan Rakovan advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and scored on another Joe Bialkowski single.  Joe’s aggressive base running got us another run when trying to advance to third after a ground out to third forced an overthrow by the 3rd baseman.  Zach Pearce and Joe Bialkowski both had two hits.

The loss drops the Caps to 4-3 in the Conference and 9-7 overall.  The Caps don”t have time to dwell on the loss as they pick back up tonight against Middle Creek 7:00 pm at Middle Creek.

Caps loss to West Johnson not reflected in the score 5-0

Too many men left on base was the story of the night for the Capitals.  The offense just couldn’t break through despite having multiple opportunities.  Timely hits just eluded the Caps all night long.

The starting pitching got roughed up a little but the bullpen came in and combined for 3 innings of shutout ball. The Caps fall to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Conference.

The Caps have a few days off to right the ship before taking on crosstown rivals Sanderson Friday night 7:00pm at Optimist Park.  The Caps will look to exact revenge against the Spartans as they were the team that knocked the Caps out of the State Playoffs in 09.

Broughton takes a 9-2 loss to Wakefield

The scoring started in the 2nd with a 2 out rally.  Jr Kevin Partin started things off with a two run double.  Sr Cameron Gombatz followed with a RBI single which followed by a RBI single by Jr. JP Morris.

The bats were pretty silent until the ninth when Thomas Butler led off with a single.  After being forced at 2nd on a bunt attempt by Tanner Parker, Will Cooper took a 3-1 pitch out of the park and it was a no doubter.

Cameron Gombatz gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings, Will Watkins pitched a solid 2 2/3 innings of relief despite being hurt by a long ball.  Joe Bialkowski pitched the final two innings to pick up the win.  He is 3-1.

Caps opened up the Bobby Murray against Ragsdale (Greensboro) and played some very uninspired ball losing 12-0 giving up 7 unearned runs.  They followed up the performance with another lose to cross town rivals Athens Drive.  The Caps were competitive for the first 4 inning but a 3 run 5th put the game out of reach, final score 6-0.  Broughton salvaged the weekend with a 4-1 win in the final game against Trinity Academy.
