park a 3 run 4th and Gombatz Finishes the Cougars pitching 4 Scoreless
Sr Righthander Will Watkins pitched 3 strong but the Caps found themselves down 3-2 in the 4th. The Caps rallied in the inning scoring 3 on a RBI single by Sr Cameron Gombatz and a huge 2 out hit by Soph Outfielder Tanner Parker. Gombatz took the mound in the 4th and was backed up by outstanding defense. The Caps defense turned a nice double play in the 4th and a TRIPLE PLAY in the 5th. With runners on first and second Sr Thomas Butler started the turn by catching a line drive at first, stepping on the bag, then beat the runner back to 2nd to complete the triple play. Gombatz showed his experience and poise with 4 scoreless inning to close out the game and earning him his first win of the year. The Caps improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Jr Righthander Brandon Saunders started strong going 3 innings and only giving up 1 run. Jr Pierce Jensen was asked to come in and stop the bleeding, he proved himself worthy by going 2 1/3 innings without surrendering a run. The middle innings were a different story with the pitching staff giving up 11 walks (most in the 4 & 5). The walks took their toll as they offered no chance for a Capital win. The offense did some damage with a solo HR by Sr Evan Rakovan, a RBI Double Jr. Kevin Partin and a 2-3 night from Fr Joe Bialkowski. The Caps Fall to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Timely hitting and costly errors give the Caps their first Conference Win
The Caps made up a 5 run deficit in the 7th and win it in the 9th. The Wildcats jumped out to a big lead at 7-2 and looked like they had this one in the bag, but the Caps kept fighting. Sr Catcher Zach Pearce and Jr outfielder Josh Clark answered the bell with timely hits in the 7th. With the help of some walks and errors it was all tied up at the end of regulation. Freshman Lefthander Joe Bialkowski came in and shut the door in the 8th and 9th earning the win. As the sun went down Millbrook continued the errors in the 9th and handed the Caps their first conference win. The Caps now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The Caps improve to 3-0 on the arm of Sr. Righthander Will Watkins (2-0). Watkins went 6 strong giving up only 1 unearned run. Sr. Shortstop Cameron Gombatz finished up with a 5 pitch 7th. Gombatz is proving himself to be a reliable closer after finishing his third strait game.
It was a tight game until the 5th inning where the Caps broke out with 4 runs. The rally started with double off the wall by Sr. Zach Pierce and later that inning So. Right-fielder Tanner Parker cleaned up with a ripping double for 3 RBIs. Cooper helped out his cause with an RBI and Gombatz got an Sac Fly RBI with a little help from his friends.
The Caps take on Middle Creek this Friday at Wiley Warren Field (BHS) 4:00. Middle Creek as shown it’s teeth this year and will be a tough opponent for your Broughton Capitals.

Will Cooper (1-0) started the game strong pitching 4 scoreless innings and earning the win. In spectacular fashion Pierce got the strike out and retired the side. Sr. Cameron Gombatz then closed the door for the second game in a row an earned the save.
Hitting was the story of the day for the Caps with Sr. Thomas Butler hitting a 3 run HR in the 2nd inning and Gombatz coming up big with a 2 run double in the 4th.
