Caps continue their good play with 7-2 Victory over Heritage

The Caps produce top to bottom with 8 guys getting hits a 5 guys driving in runs led by Eric Collins who had a double and triple driving in two runs. Sr. Wilson White continued his strong work on the mound pitching a complete game while striking out 12.
Coach Jones “The game was a real dogfight. I am really proud of the way our kids responded, every time Heritage tried to put together a Rally we had an answer. We continue to get offensive contributions throughout the line-up and Wilson threw an outstanding game.”

Enloe struck first but the Caps cranked up the offense, scoring 3 runs in the 5th and tacking on another 2 in the 6th. Final score Broughton 8 Enloe 2. Sr. Joe Bialkowski pitched six strong innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits. Sr. Chris Schrum closed out the game getting three strait in the 7th. Caps improve conference play (4-0).

The Bats Stay Hot! Win over Wake Forest 11-1 in 5 Innings
Offensively it was a team effort as 5 different Caps drove in runs and 8 different Caps got hits. Sr. Wilson White had another solid outing on the mound giving up 1 run in 5 innings. Caps improve conference play (3-0).
Coach Jones “We talked before the game about “process”, are we doing the right things? Are we playing with good effort? Are we getting good at-bats? Are we concentrating for the full game? The guys did a really good job in all of these areas. Even with an extended traffic delay we were able to come out and get a big lead. We are off to a solid start but we need to get better everyday.”

Sr. Joe Bialkoski has a day going six strong innings on the mound and a 3 Run Blast in the 2nd. Sr. Austin Walker stays clutch run scoring double to start off the inning. Senior Maclin Batchelor also had a nice day going 2-2 and a RBI. Caps finish off the Price 7-3 Caps start conference play (2-0).
Coach Jones “A very sound and complete performance. We continue to be aggressive at bat. Pitching was good and defense was solid. We took control of the game and kept it.”

Caps get down early with sloppy play but battle back to pull out extra inning win
Broughton gave up two un-earned runs in the first two inning but rally in the 6th to tie it up and then take the lead in the 8th. Final score Broughton 3 Millbrook 2. Sr. Wilson White pitched 6 strong innings scattering 4 hits and 2 un-earned runs. Chris Schrum came in and pitched a perfect 7th to get the win and Sr. Austin Walker pitched the 8th to secure the save. The big rally came in the 6th when Sr. Austin Walker doubled with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2. In the 8th Wilson White scored the go ahead run as the Caps start conference play (1-0).
Coach Jones “It was the sort of game we couldn’t’t win last year. We got off to a rough start, compounding our mistakes. But our effort and the quality of at-bats improved as the day went on. We put pressure on the defense with hard, consistent contact and aggressive base running. Our Pitching was outstanding all day. It was a real team effort.”

Caps win 9-4 over Middle Creek
Broughton was operating on all cylinders yesterday afternoon, as they threatened in every inning and got great contributions from top to bottom in the order. Sr. Joe Bialkowski finished off a complete game on only 98 pitches. John Woods continued his strong play at Middle Creek going 2-3 with a double in the 4th. Jr. Ben Eller also had a good day with two hits and 3 RBIs.
Coach Jones “We showed progress. Things we worked on in the limited practice time we have had, showed up on the field. Our defensive communication was good. Joe did a good job of executing the pitching plan. He walked no one and did a great job of keeping the hitters off balance. We played error less ball behind him. Our approach at the plate became more aggressive as the day wore on. Of course, we need to keep on that path as we enter conference play next week.

JV Highlights
Broughton Caps JV captured their first win of the season with a 7-4 victory over visiting Middle Creek High School Thursday evening. Broughton lead 3-1 after the first 3 innings behind Sophomore Noah Yarborough who struck out 6 and allowed 1 run on 2 hits. Middle Creek tied the score in the 4th and took the lead 4-3 in the top of the 5th. Back to back singles from Freshmen Will Collins and Cameron Epperson started a 4 run rally in the bottom of the 5th that led the 7-4 win. Sophomore Alex Hensley led the Caps at the plate going 3 for 3 on the night. Yarborough, Collins, Epperson and Sam Thompson also contributed hits in the Caps victory.
Caps Fall in the 7th
Despite being down early Broughton responded with 4 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 5-4 lead. The attack was led by Ben Sawyer and Joe Bialkowski who each got 2 run doubles. However Riverside responded with a run in the 6th to tie it and a run in the bottom of the 7th to win it. Final Score BHS 5 Riverside 6

JV Highlights
Coach Nick Luhm and the JV baseball team started their 2013 season on Friday. The young Caps team of 5 sophomores and 11 freshmen welcomed the Garner Trojans in the home opener. Sophomore Noah Yarborough started on the mound for the Caps, throwing 3 shutout innings with 5 strikeouts and no hits. After 4 scoreless innings, the Trojans broke the game open in the fifth inning and went on for the win. Offensively, the Caps were led by Freshman John Watters with 2 singles. Alex Hensley and Sherrod McKoy also contributed hits for the Caps.
The Caps JV played their second game on the season on Monday, hosting Riverside at Wiley Warren Field. Freshman Cameron Epperson started on the mound for the Caps, throwing 2 innings with 2 strikeouts and allowing 2 hits. Freshmen Jake Baize and Will Baldwin contributed hits for the Caps, and Epperson drove in the lone run in the Caps 7 – 1 loss.
Caps Split the Opening Series
The Caps opened up the season with a 6-4 loss to Garner but turned it around with a 11-5 victory on Friday.
Sr. Wilson White started the year off going 4 innings and giving up 2 runs. The Caps had an early lead going into the 5th but were unable to hang on. Coach Jones “We are ahead of last year and showed some good qualities under very difficult conditions. We just made 1 or 2 more mistakes than we could afford against a good baseball team.”

Game two in the series ended with a BHS win. The Caps fell behind early. Sr Joe Bialkowski battled on the mound to keep the Capitals within striking distance. The Offense came alive in the middle innings with big hits by Sr. Maclin Batchelor and Bialkowski. Sr Chris Schrum pitched the final two innings to secure the comeback victory.
