The Caps’ varsity travelled to Leesville Road on Thursday 4/10/14 for a Cap 8 conference game.  With the wind blowing out, the teams engaged in a 3-HR, 25-total runs shootout.

The Caps got the scoring fest started in the first inning on a double by Sr. Ben Sawyer and a run-scoring single by So. Jake Baize.  The Caps added a run in the second inning and four more in the fifth.  In the fifth, Sawyer, Sr. Rob Case and So. John Woods would draw walks before Baize singled, Sr. John Baldwin doubled, and Sr. Ben Eller added a run-scoring ground out.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Caps added a run on doubles by Jr. Dom Ford and Case to take a 7 – 6 lead.  But the Pride would respond with 7 runs in its half of the inning to take a 13 – 7 lead into the seventh inning.

The Caps’ offense responded again in the seventh inning.    John Baldwin, So. Will Baldwin and Ford loaded the bases before Sawyer plated three runs with a two-out double.  Case followed with a 2-run homerun to get the Caps within 1 run of the lead.  However, they were unable to push across the tying run and the Pride held on for the 13 – 12 victory.

The Caps’ starting pitcher Sr. Jared Feeny had a solid outing, surrendering only 3 earned runs in 4 innings to keep the Caps in the game.
