Wiley Warren Field-  Despite cold and windy conditions and a solid offensive effort, Broughton could not overcome its own mistakes as the Leesville Pride routed the Caps in a 14-7 conference win.

The Caps got off to a slow start, surrendering five runs on five hits and two errors in the top of the first.  Broughton battled back, collecting two runs in the bottom of the second on a triple hammered by Junior Chris Vinson.  The Caps took the lead in he bottom of the third after an RBI single by Designated Hitter Xander Hamilton and a two-RBI single by Vinson.

After a homerun by Leesville Catcher Landon Choboy to tie the game at 6, the Caps defense fell apart.  In addition to walking six and hitting two Pride batters, the Broughton defense made six errors in the contest.  Only three of Leesville’s runs were earned.

In frigid conditions, there were a number of hot bats for the Caps.  In addition to Vinson’s two-hit, four RBI effort, Broughton Sophomores Joe Barrow and Jon Benefield smashed doubles.

The Caps look to pick up the pieces as they travel to face conference rival Millbrook on Friday.  First pitch is at 4:30.  Come support the Caps!
