Holly Springs defeats Caps

Broughton dropped a non-conference game to the number 8-ranked Holly Springs 14-5.  Broughton jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a double by short stop Dom Ford (Sr.) and an RBI single by center fielder Will Baldwin (Jr.) but the Hawks put six on the board in their half of the 1st.  The Broughton defense had a nice 6-4-3 double play by Ford and second baseman Will Collins (Jr.) in the second and outfielders Dylan Lamm (Jr.), Baldwin, and Thomas Walden (Jr.) all had nice catches on a breezy day.  In the 3rd, the Caps had back to back singles by catcher John Woods (Sr.) and Baldwin.  Elias Kuhns (Soph.) pinch ran for Woods and was able to score on a hard hit ball by Lamm making the score 6-2 after 3.  The Caps rally continued in the 4th when Collins collected his second single of the game, Ford connected on his second double and Woods walked to load the bases.  Baldwin reached on a hard hit ball off the first baseman, scoring a run.  First baseman Noah Yarborough (Sr.) followed with an RBI single and third baseman Cam Epperson (Jr.) drove in a run by being hit by a pitch.  Score 6-5 Hawks.  Holly Springs followed with a two-run homer and a grand slam to put the game out of reach.  Ford, Baldwin and Collins led the Caps with two hits each, Yarborough, Woods and Walden each had a hit.
