Caps Drop Non-Conference Game to Apex

Apex jumped out to a 1-0 lead after 1.  The Caps threatened in the second with singles by Noah Yarborough (Sr.) and Mathis Dean (Fr.) but left the bases loaded.  The Cougars scored 5 in the second and one in the third to go up 7-0.  The Caps played good defense in the middle innings with senior catcher John Woods throwing out a base stealer, Will Baldwin (Jr.) gunned down a runner at the plate from second base, Will Collins (Jr.) took a throw from senior shortstop Dom Ford to pick off a runner at second, and Ford and Collins teamed for a 6-4-3 double play.  The Caps scored three in the 5th to cut the lead to 8-3.  Warren Grady (Soph), Ford, and Elias Kuhns (Soph) all walked before Woods delivered with a sacrifice fly to right allowing Grady to tag from third.  Baldwin was hit by a pitch (2nd of game) then Yarborough delivered a big 2 RBI single to plate Ford and Kuhns.  Thomas Walden (Jr.) collected his second hit of the game in the 6th and scored on an error to make the score 11-4.
