The Caps’ varsity traveled to Wakefield High School on Friday 5/2/14 for a key Cap 8 contest.  Solid pitching and defense, coupled with some timely hitting, resulted in a 2 – 0 victory for the Caps.

Sophomore Thomas Walden pitched a complete game, limiting the Wolverines to 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.  Walden was backed by an error free defensive effort; Senior first baseman Eric Collins had 5 putouts and Senior centerfielder John Baldwin added 4.

The Caps’ offense struck in the 5th inning.  Sophomore Jake Baize doubled and would score the game’s first run on a single by Junior John Woods.  The Caps added an insurance run in the 6th inning.  Senior Ben Sawyer lead off the inning with a single; Sophomore Cam Epperson advanced him with a single; and Sawyer scored on a single by Senior Ben Eller.

“Tonight was a complete team effort.  Thomas Walden gave us an outstanding effort on the mound and the defense was solid.  We got some timely hitting and good hustle on the bases.  The players demonstrated their growth over the course of the season to be able to finish a close game like this,” commented head coach Harry Jones.

Offensive leaders for the game: Ben Eller (2 – 3, RBI), Jake Baize (1 – 3, 2B, run) and John Woods (2 – 3, RBI).
