Caps Starting Pitcher Sophomore Wilson White Throws a Gem and Gets a One Batter Game Saving Assist from Sophomore Lefty, Joe Bialkowski, To Hand a 4-3 Loss To Visiting Enloe.
The Caps returned home Thursday to take on a visiting Enloe Team. Like Tuesday’s win over Wake Forest Rolesville, the Caps were in control the entire game until the 7th and had to survive a late game threat to win. The Caps bats, which have been a little quite lately, woke up a bit and produced seven hits including two solo home runs to pick up 4 runs for the day. So. Bialkowski got things off to a great start with a lead off double to the right field corner in the 1st but was stranded. Broughton picked up a run in the 2nd with third baseman Sr. Payne Eller leading things off with a single and was moved over when Sr. Tanner Parkers was hit by a pitch. Sr. Josh Clark’s well placed sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and Eller scored on So. Max Magallanes’s fielder’s choice grounder to the shortstop. The Caps pick up a 2nd run in the 3rd with a solo homerun blast over the left center wall by first baseman, Sr. Brandon Saunders. The Caps respond to Enloe’s two run 4th with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 5th. Leading off the 5th, Bialkowski smoked the second solo homerun of the day over the right center wall for his second hit of the afternoon. With two outs, Saunders got pitched around drawing the walk and scored the 4th run of the day from first base on Sr. Payne Eller’s double to right center field for his game leading third hit. Sr. Tanner Parker then delivered a line drive to center field for a single but the throw at the plate got Sr. Eller for the last out of the inning but the 4 runs proved enough to secure the win.
Winning pitcher, So. Wilson White had total mastery of the Enloe batters for the majority of the game but two improbable throwing errors in the 4th by the Caps allowed Enloe to tie the game 2-2. The Caps settled back down and played error free ball the rest of the way keeping Enloe scoreless in the top of the 5th and 6th innings. Things got interesting in the top of the 7th with White coming back out to try and finish the game and pick up the Caps second complete game of the week by Caps starting pitchers. Enloe led off the 7th with a triple and followed that up with an RBI single with one out to get within 1 at 4-3. With a man on first, White picks up the second out on a fly ball to center but has trouble picking up the last out, walking the next two batters to load the bases. White, with 6 strikeouts, 4 hits and 3 walks on the afternoon, gave way to So. left hander Bialkowski to save the lead. With every pitch, the crowd noise grew louder and playoff tension like atmosphere abound, as the count made its way to 3-2. The ever steady and ever calm Bialkowski delivered a great 3-2 pitch resulting in a fly ball to Sr. short stop Kevin Partin who put it away for the last out picking up the save for winning pitcher Wilson White. The Caps exciting win, keeps them tied for first place in the Cap 8 Conference race with Wakefield and Sanderson.
