Caps Fall to Spartans

Sanderson defeated Broughton 8-1 as three Spartan pitchers combined to limit the Caps to just two hits.  Broughton trailed 3-0 after five innings as senior Will Baldwin scattered six hits but the Spartan bats came alive in the 6th and a string of hits forced the Caps to go to the bullpen.  Senior Jacob McCaslin came in and was able to strike out three in 1 and 1/3 innings of solid relief.

Baldwin had an infield single to lead off the Broughton half of the first.  Harrison Hemric (Soph. LF) worked a walk in the 3rd but was left stranded.  In the Broughton 4th, Warren Grady (Jr. RF) and Mathis Dean (Soph. 1B) walked but both were left on base.  The Caps were able to get on the board in the 6th as Baldwin collected his second infield single of the game, Kyle Ehlers (Soph. 3B) reached on an error and both runners advanced on the errant throw.  Cam Epperson (Sr. DH) delivered an RBI sacrifice fly to score Baldwin.

Defensive highlights: nice plays on high infield choppers for Ehlers at 3rd and Penn Sealey (Fr.) at shortstop.  Robert Ramseur (Fr. C) threw out a runner attempting to steal second, the first of what will be many in his career.

Next game: Friday, April 29th @ Wakefield @ 7:00.
