Leesville Defeats Broughton

The score was tied 2-2 going into the final inning but the Caps came up short, losing a hard-fought game to the Pride, 4-2. It turned out to be a great pitcher’s duel. Broughton starter, Will Baldwin (Sr.), pitched a nice game, giving up two hits in 5 2/3 innings while striking out 7.

The Caps got on the board first. Dylan Lamm (Sr. LF) started the second with a solid single to left. Thomas Walden (Sr. RF) singled and runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a throwing error. Penn Sealey (Fr. 3B) knocked in the run with a sacrifice bunt scoring Lamm. In the 3rd, Baldwin beat the throw for an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Warren Grady (Jr. CF), and advance to third on a fly out but was left stranded. Broughton tied the score at 2 in the 6th as Mathis Dean (Soph. 1B) singled, Kyle Ehlers (Soph. SS) singled, and Dean scored as Lamm reached on an error. In its final at bat, Leesville scored 2 with 2 outs.

The Caps out-hit The Pride 7-3. Matthis Dean (Soph/1B) lead the team with a single and a double, Baldwin Ehlers, Lamm, Walden and Robert Ramseur (Fr. C) each collected a hit.

Defensive highlight: a double play where Walden caught a line drive in right and had a strong throw to 1st doubling up the runner.

Memorable moments: Freshman Catcher Robert Ramseur had his first hit as a high schooler and freshman Penn Sealey got his first career start at 3rd.

Next game: Wednesday, March 16th @ Green Hope @ 4:30.
