Caps Off to 1-0 Start In Conference Play with 10-5 victory at Rival Millbrook

Caps get solid pitching, solid defense and timely hitting to overcome an early 2-0 deficient going ahead by 1 in the top of third scoring 3 runs on 3 singles by Sr. Pierce Jensen, Soph. Max Magallanes and Sr. Josh Clark with a couple of walks and a Millbrook throwing error to aid the cause. Millbrook made a pitching change in the 4th and the Caps capitalized by scoring 5 more runs. The first two Caps batters in the top of the 4th drew walks which were followed up with back to back doubles by Magallanes and Soph. Joe Biakowski for 3 of the 5 runs. Another walk and the 3rd double of the inning by Jr. Will “Big Fly” Cooper pushed two more runs across. The Caps add 2 more insurance runs in the top of the 6th with Bialkowski leading off with a single, his 3rd hit of the day and was moved over by a well placed sacrifice bunt by Josh Clark. Cooper parked his second hit of the day to the right center fence delivering his 4th RBI of the game.  Running for Cooper, Jr. Will Barfield stole 2nd and scored on a double play error by the shortstop on the throw over to first in an attempt to get batter Payne Eller.

Winning pitcher, Sr. Brandon Saunders (1-0), pitched 4 good innings. After surrendering two in the first, he held Millbrook scoreless in the second and third facing just 7 batters retiring 3 on strikeouts and two on grounders including a double play.  Millbrook pushed two more over in the 4th off Saunders who surrendered three singles before rolling a couple more outs and adding a strikeout. Soph. Wilson White provided two solid relief innings relieving Saunders in the in the 5th holding Millbrook scoreless for the next two innings maintaining his  0.0 ERA for the year with two strikeouts and two hits. Sr. Pierce Jensen came in the 7th to pick up the save throwing strikes with a good lead not allowing any walks and surrendering only one run to close the game out.

The Caps next game is this Friday, April 18  4:00pm, at Wiley Warren Field (BHS) versus Leesville Road.
